Wha-hoo! It works! It really, really works!
When it comes to HTML and Javascript, I could use some help. I got some from the open source library, YUI. Like I said that’s a help, but some translation still needs to be made to make it work with Ruby on Rails, especially the forms. I could use the out-of-the-box formatting that comes with rails, but I want it to be easy to use, intuitive if I can, with some GUI sugar. So Yahoo’s Rich Text Editor comes to the rescue. At least, that’s what I thought. If you watch the video, it looks pretty simple, and it probably is for a full-time programmer. Now for a part-timer like me, it takes a bit more work.
But still, it’s done, and I am so excited to complete this part of Ocean Shore 2.0.

I saw this commercial this morning and laughed. I wonder if we could work a feature like this into into the new website:

My name is Carl Tanner, dad of kindergartener Joshua, and, as of November first, I have become your new webmaster for Ocean Shore School. I got a quick story to tell you, if you have a minute. About the middle of last month, I contacted John Pick. I asked him if he wanted to add new features to the current website. We exchanged several emails, talked about features, and he said something like, “Hey you sound qualified to be the new webmaster.”
So now I have the ability to “scratch some itches” that I have as a member of the PTO. I will attempt to not interrupt the current activity on the PTO site, http://members.oceanshoreschool.org. I will also add on services at the same time through a beta website, “Ocean Shore 2.0,” http://oceanshoreschool.info. Depending on my availability, I hope to have something working by Christmas.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or any itches that you want scratched, just click on the comments link below, fill out the form, and hit enter. I’ll try to respond within a day or two in the comments.
